FAKE I.D

Graphic designers Fake ID came into college to give a presentation yesterday. Their work incorporates graphic design, typography, illustration, I.T and photography. They produce a range of 3D work, flat illustration, images for magazines/ adverts/ shops etc. type faces and basically do a bit of everything.
Their presentation surprised me because rather than showing us their work, they showed us their influences and the things that inspired them instead. It seemed strange to not show any of their own work but it was interesting to see how they got their ideas. They would watch old adverts, listen to old radio broadcasts and listen to conversations for inspiration. There were more audio references than visual in their presentation and they said it was because people do not have 'ear-lids'. It is very easy to cut out something that you don't want to see by either closing your eyes or looking away but it is a lot harder to ignore sound because you are constantly exposed to it wherever you go.
Fake ID produce are one of those companies whose work just seems to be effortlessly cool. The two designers are both laid back and chilled out, this calmness comes across in their work.
The presentation has made me start to think about different kinds of influences rather than looking for things that are purely visual.
